When is a private airport pickup worth booking?
If even one of the following applies to you, book your car in advance:
You land in the small hours / late at night
The only people left at the exit are touts, and their quotes double on the spot.
Family trip, several people together
An ordinary sedan or ride-hail car simply won't fit everyone.
You have another leg the same day
You can't afford to lose a single minute.
Many travellers know how this goes: you book a ride at the exit three times, and it gets cancelled twice. Your child is asleep in your arms, the suitcases are piled at your feet, and you're holding your phone, watching for a driver assignment, watching your luggage, watching your child. Forty minutes later a car finally arrives that can't fit everyone — and the driver says: 200 more and we go.
That's not bad luck; at arrivals it's close to the norm. A car where "everyone fits and all the luggage fits" is genuinely rare in China.
Booking ahead never just saves you the fare — it settles the three things that matter (how many people, how many bags, which vehicle) before you even land. The moment you arrive there's nothing to wait for, nothing to swap, nothing to haggle: find the person holding your name board, open the door, go.
You've just spent a dozen-plus hours in the air. Don't lose the last 40 minutes at the exit.
